The Silent Hill f continuity has been a mystery to the gaming world for quite some time, except now, that Konami has clarified where this new addition to the twisted Silent Hill family fits in, gamers are finally getting some answers.
Since the first Silent Hill was released on February 23, 1999, the franchise has provided gamers the fright they were looking for. To some, it’s even a part of their scary Halloween playlist of games to play whenever Jack-o-lanterns and pumpkin spice lattes become trendy again.
With Silent Hill f, many still don’t know where it actually fits in the entire franchise. Hopefully, Konami’s explanation can clear things up for us, so let’s go and listen to their explanation!
Silent Hill f Canon: Konami's Message to Their Beloved Community
Konami finally released a statement explaining where their newest title, Silent Hill f, fits in the franchise. One of the main reasons fans can’t put their fingers on the game’s place is because it’s quite an oddball. Compared to other titles, this one is set in a lot further in the past, it’s taking place in Japan (which is a bit of an anomaly since gamers are used to the North American setting that previous titles had), and fans are understandably having a bit of a hard time figuring this one out.
Of course, this isn’t exactly shocking. The Silent Hill franchise has always evoked more questions than answers for people, especially with their trailers and teasers. With the Silent Hill f continuity being the new kid in the block, it’s only normal for developers to keep the intrigue and interest to a maximum so gamers stay engaged.
With that said, many fans think that the game will eventually reveal its hand and prove to them that it has ties to the other titles in the franchise. Given that the team behind the Silent Hill franchise is known for providing players with insane, disturbing, and dark twists, you’d forgive anyone who still thinks the game has a secret role to play within the franchise’s universe.
Fans Might Feel Disappointed About the Silent Hill f Connections They've Long Theorized About
But in a single tweet, Konami might have crushed some of the community’s hopes of having a Silent Hill f continuity by clarifying that, in essence, Silent Hill f is a standalone game. Yes, you heard that right, it has no ties or connections to other Silent Hill titles.
It turns out that Silent Hill f was planned to be a standalone title with no ties or intentions of being an extension to the original Silent Hill series. Take a look at the tweet we took a screenshot of below (and click here to visit Konami’s actual X (formerly Twitter) page):

As you can see, the tweet talks about the game being an entirely brand-new work “independent of the series.” It even mentions that anybody with no prior experience or knowledge of the previous Silent Hill titles can enjoy the game without the fear of missing out bugging them because the game is “independent” by nature.
The tweet then abruptly ends without anything other than the concise message telling everyone that the game is, indeed, a standalone. It’s a bit sad, but this could also open the door to a completely novel gaming Silent Hill experience that many of us haven’t had since Silent Hill 2.
Fans Should Stop Expecting Connections
Although Silent Hill fans won’t be enjoying some clever connections to the main series, that doesn’t mean the developers won’t have some small nods to the original franchise. We haven’t seen any easter eggs from the trailers given to us thus far, there are some Silent Hill f details that make the game very interesting.
In any case, Konami has teased that there will be aspects of the actual game that would serve as something like an easter egg for longtime fans. Though newcomers to Silent Hill would probably miss these details, it wouldn’t be something that could ruin their experience. But yeah, it would’ve been nicer if the game had a bit of Silent Hill f continuity.
Outside of those aspects we’ll soon be seeing once the game gets released, Silent Hill f would have no ties to other titles in the franchise. With that in mind, fans should stop expecting any connections to characters, answers, or explanations from other Silent Hill titles. Let’s treat Silent Hill f as a new horror game we could all have fun and be scared about.
Now That the Silent Hill f Continuity Has Been Cleared Up…
Now that Konami has clarified where the game fits in their video game horror franchise, we can all move on and be excited for this game’s release. Why should we be excited? Because whether there is a Silent Hill f continuity or not, this new Silent Hill title looks promisingly terrifying.
But what do you think? Should Silent Hill f be a standalone game or must it have ties to other Silent Hill games? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
