Obsidian Entertainment, renowned for its rich storytelling and immersive gameplay in titles like The Outer Worlds, is poised to deliver another hit with the Avowed release delay announcement.

The gaming community is buzzing with news about the eagerly awaited RPG, Avowed, developed by Obsidian Entertainment and published by Xbox Game Studios. Initially set for a fall 2024 release, Avowed’s launch has been postponed to February 18, 2025. While this Avowed release delay might be disappointing for fans, it is a strategic decision aimed at giving Avowed the spotlight it deserves amidst a crowded release schedule.

Plus, the wait could make things more interesting, especially with another delay from S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2: Heart of Chornobyl.

The Avowed release delay follows growing concerns about the heavy release calendar in late 2024, which includes major franchises like Call of Duty and Assassin’s Creed. The competitive environment could have overshadowed Avowed, prompting the developers to seek a less congested launch window.

By moving the release date to February, Avowed avoids clashing with these blockbuster titles, ensuring it receives the attention it deserves. That’s what they say, at least, with many thinking that Avowed’s delay logic is a double-edged sword.

Phil Spencer, CEO of Microsoft Gaming, confirmed the rescheduled release, expressing confidence in Obsidian’s dedication to quality. “We want to make sure they have the best launch possible,” Spencer stated, highlighting the company’s commitment to delivering a polished and engaging experience for players.

Ahead of its new release date, more details about Avowed will be unveiled at Gamescom 2024. Despite the Avowed release delay, XBOX plans to showcase the game during their livestream on August 23, offering fans a closer look at gameplay and additional features. This event is expected to heighten anticipation and provide deeper insights into what Avowed has to offer.

What is Avowed?

Obsidian Entertainment and XBOX Game Studios are the developers and publishers of the upcoming action RPG (role-playing game) Avowed. Pillars of Eternity and Avowed are games that share the same universe of Eora, which means they’re somewhat connected to one another. Once its release date comes, it will be available for Xbox Series X/S consoles and Windows on February 18, 2025.

First-person and third-person viewpoints are both available in the action role-playing game Avowed. Players can defeat adversaries with firearms, melee weapons, and magic. This makes the Avowed release delay pretty sad because the game looks very promising.

Players can accomplish feats like freezing adversaries in ice or entangling them using an Entangle spell by using the game’s assortment of spells. Spells can be combined with different weapons to form combinations, like smashing through a frozen adversary with a sword.

Like Obsidian’s last game, The Outer Worlds, the title has conversation options that change depending on the player’s preferred tone. A few NPCs, each with their own unique personality and fighting abilities, are going to join the player’s team and become friends.

What Do We Know About the Development for Avowed Release Delay So Far?

One of the longest-running projects in the illustrious studio’s history, Avowed has long been with brewing at Obsidian Entertainment, specifically for more than five years. The most well-known RPGs made by Obsidian are The Outer WorldsFallout: New Vegas, Pillars of Eternity, and many more.

The interesting thing about Avowed is the fact that it’s the studio’s first AAA project after Microsoft Gaming bought it in 2018 and merged it with Xbox Game Studios. Since its announcement in 2020, Avowed has continued to be among the most eagerly awaited Xbox titles.

As of right now, the release date is set for February 18, 2025, but that might change given the Avowed release delay. Despite the popularity of playing with friends and Obsidian’s amazing work on the survival sim Grounded, I should also note that Avowed is a completely single-player game and will not feature cooperative or multiplayer play.

Now, this isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but if you are thinking of playing Avowed once it’s released, you might want to keep this in mind.

Here’s the gameplay trailer for Avowed:

Let's Talk a Little Bit More About Avowed's Plot

The Living Lands, which is a constituent of the Eora universe, is the main setting for the Avowed game to take place in. Large caverns and valleys, dry stony deserts, and verdant forests are just a few of the diverse settings that make up the game’s Living Lands.

Part of Eora’s planet, the Living Lands, is the setting for Avowed. The Living Lands inside the game offer a range of landscapes, ranging from lush woods to barren rocky deserts to vast tunnels and valleys.

The “Dream Scourge” is a mystery plague that players are sent to investigate as an Aedyr Empire ambassador sent to the Living Lands. Will the players be able to solve the mystery of this plague and get rid of it?

Despite the Avowed Release Delay Announcement We Can Still Get Ready for Its Launch in 2025

Truth be told, it’s unfortunate that Avowed‘s release got delayed. But if this lets the developers polish the game better, I believe many gamers wouldn’t mind. We are tired of buying games that aren’t properly working, have tons of glitches, and crawling with bug issues once they’re released.

But what do you think? Do you think Avowed‘s delay is a bad thing, or perhaps you think it could be a good thing? Write down your comments below!
