2K Games just revealed their teaser for Borderlands 4, which will be a new addition to the saga.
The teaser thrilled fans as the publishers intend to launch the game by 2025. According to 2K Games, they want to see if you “have what it takes” to be a legendary Vault Hunter.
The game’s teaser trailer showed up at Gamescom, spreading the buzz about the upcoming title. It marks the fourth mainline game for the saga and the seventh in the franchise. You also have the option to include it on your Steam wishlist right now. Currently, the franchise has sold over 87 million copies, and we can expect a surge in sales upon the title’s release.
The Current Deal
Earlier this year, Take-Two Interactive revealed its plans to acquire Gearbox. The $460 million dollar deal closed in June and included several goodies. These goodies were Gearbox’s intellectual properties: Borderlands, Homeworld, Tiny Tina’s Wonderland, and more.
During the acquisition, Gearbox already mentioned they had six projects. All of them were at various phases of development. These projects would include sequels for Borderlands, Homeworld, and a “new and exciting” game. Take-Two also acquired all of these games and they will push forward with all of them. Borderlands 4 also marks the first of the six projects stated by Gearbox.
Although fans would hesitate because of the new ownership, the teaser reveals that the title still packs a punch. It shows that 2K Games and Take-Two Interactive won’t hold back for the biggest franchises in the industry.
What Can We Expect for Borderlands 4?
Randy Pitchford, the founder and president of Gearbox, says that all of them have massive ambitions for the new title. They also plan to put everything they have to make the game better and more exciting. We can expect new levels of gameplay and stories branching in different directions.
So far, the Borderlands saga is one of the most successful franchises in the industry. Catharina Lavers Mallet, senior vice president and general manager at 2K Games, says they can’t wait for 2025. According to her, the teams at 2K Games and Gearbox are thrilled about the game’s massive entrance next year.
The title is still an open-world first-person loot shooter with a few role-playing elements. We can expect the same gameplay but with possible new items and abilities for characters. We can also predict tons of new content in the game for players to explore alongside endless possibilities.
However, would we see any returning characters? Where would the players be in terms of the canonical timeline? There are plenty of questions buzzing around, but we’ll have to wait for more information. One topic of interest that players are hoping for is the comeback of the Borderlands title.
Recent News Helps Us Narrow Down the Game's Release Date
When Borderlands 4 was announced in August, the developers confirmed that it would be released sometime in 2025. Cool, wonderful, and outstanding – another excellent addition to 2025’s growing impressive selection of new games.
However, Take-Two Interactive’s most recent financial reports provide some further insight into this. Borderlands 4 is scheduled to be released in fiscal year 2026, according to the company’s financial announcement for 2025’s second quarter.
Don’t worry, it doesn’t imply it’s been postponed; fiscal years can be a little complicated. Take-Two’s 2026 fiscal year begins in April 2025, giving it nine months of the following year to deal with.

Is That All That We Know About Borderlands 4's Release Date?
However, that’s not all the info we have about the game’s release date. According to Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two, Borderlands 4 will not come into conflict with GTA 6 set to be released in Fall 2025.
So where does this leave us? That is up for argument; it hinges on the extent to which the two games can be launched before Take-Two considers their dates to be “clashing.”
GTA 6 was revealed far before Borderlands 4, thus it would be unusual if Gearbox’s title came out first, but that doesn’t exclude it. One thing is certain: fans better not expect Borderlands 4 to be released until April 2025.
Fingers Crossed—Here's Hoping Borderlands 4 Could Redeem the Franchise!
