The Epic Games Store is set to delight Fallout fans with a generous offer for the Fallout Classic Collection starting August 29, 2024.

The store will be giving away four free games, including the highly anticipated Fallout news about a Fallout Classic Collection. Be reminded, though, that this promotion will run until September 5, giving users ample time to claim these titles at no cost. This collection includes the original Fallout, Fallout 2, and Fallout Tactics.

Why You Should Play the Fallout Classic Collection?

The Fallout Classic Collection is a must-have for any RPG enthusiast, particularly those who have yet to experience the origins of the beloved Fallout series. These early games are recognized for their influence on the RPG genre, especially for their isometric gameplay and complex storylines.

While they differ significantly from the later entries like Fallout 3 and Fallout 4, they remain essential playing for anyone interested in the history of video games.

What Are Some Other Epic Games Store That Free for August 2024?

There will be free access to Wild Card Football along with the Fallout Classic Collection. Although this sports game received mixed reviews upon its release, it still offers some fun, arcade-style gameplay that can be enjoyable for casual gamers. Given that it’s free for a limited time, there’s no harm in adding it to your collection.

But that’s not all. We’re happy to announce that the Epic Games Store has other games that are free until August 29. Players can get Gigantic: Rampage Edition and brand new sci-fi survival-horror game The Callisto Protocol for the low, low price of absolutely nothing! This free offer gives you a chance to try the game and form your own opinion.

For those who are fans of the Fallout series, this promotion is an excellent opportunity to explore the roots of the franchise. Don’t miss out on this chance to claim these classic games for free. Mark your calendar for August 29 and make sure to visit the Epic Games Store to add these titles to your collection.

But Wait—There Is Still a Lot More!

Additionally, if you’re looking for more Fallout content, consider trying out the Fallout 4 mod, Fallout London. This fan-made expansion brings a fresh perspective to the Fallout universe and is highly recommended for anyone looking for new adventures in the wasteland.

Check out our installation guide for Fallout London if you’re interested in giving post-apocalyptic London a try.

You should pay attention to what the games that comprise the Fallout Classic Collection are. This is regardless of whether you have already thoroughly enjoyed Fallout through Amazon’s adaption or you have played the current Fallout titles and want to try more.

Despite being situated in the same world as Fallout 3 and later, they differ greatly in terms of appearance because they are much older. Brotherhood of Steel in particular will be significantly different from any previous Fallout experience because they are top-down.

What Is the Appeal of the Old Fallout Games and the Fallout Classic Collection?

The modern Fallout games are fantastic titles, for sure. While some would consider the older series as obsolete, they do have a unique appeal to players. Let’s check some of them out:

• A Gritty, Retro, and Isometric Post-Apocalyptic Aesthetic

The old Fallout games, which are in the Fallout Classic Collection, have such a distinctive look and vibe that different video games keep copying it. You’ll most likely see it more often in the items, interface, and interactions—such as the chatable claymation models—than in the game-play graphics. Isometric games were the rage back in the day, and Fallout was able to leave its mark in the genre.

• Random Encounters

While the modern Fallout games have random encounters, the older versions have a more dynamic randomized encounter. This alone makes it one of the old games worth playing. If we were to compare it with old-school Baldur’s Gate, for example.

In Baldur’s Gate, random encounters are almost exactly the same—almost a “T” even. Adversaries of different kinds appear and try to kill you until you kill them all.

Fallout has some of those, but there are also a lot of more creative chance encounters. Here are a couple of handful random encounters from the very first iteration of the game:

  • Finding a traveling singer to play for you will boost your charisma by 1.
  • There is a special merchant called Duc, and if you murder him, his men will randomly clash and seek retribution.
  • You may plunder a crashed alien spaceship—yes, a fricking CRASHED ALIEN SPACESHIP.

• Classless System

Fallout, and the Fallout Classic Collection, offers a fairly complex system of mechanical benefits, characteristics, traits, and abilities instead of classes. Each of these has the potential to significantly alter your gameplay and character expression. Compared to D&D’s more strict emphasis on classes, statistics, and skills, you have a little more freedom when creating your character.
