A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead delivers a heart pumping yet familiar horror experience for both fans of the movie and horror games.

A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead lets you experience the fear of navigating a deadly world, where every sound can be your last. Playing as Alex, an asthmatic college student, you must stay silent, sneak around, and survive an invasion of terrifying creatures.

The game is a gripping first-person adventure filled with high tension and emotional drama. Alex must deal with her own fears, her pregnancy, and the struggles of a post-apocalyptic world. Alongside her boyfriend Martin, she faces countless challenges, from monstrous threats to inner turmoil. The need for silence adds a whole new level of stress to every move you make.

A Quiet Place has dominated cinema theaters for the past several years as a blockbuster apocalypse movie. The title added a new twist to the typical horror genre. It featured mysterious alien creatures that attack humans at the slightest sound.

After the first movie generated more than enough revenue to incentivize a sequel, the franchise has expanded into a video game. This now gives fans the chance to experience the thrill of this dystopian world first-hand via A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead.

A Thrilling Gameplay Sneak Peek

Exclusive gameplay released last July gave fans a sneak peek into the game’s unique style. In it, we watched Alex crawl through air ducts and explore crumbling buildings while trying to escape danger. The game builds suspense in the best possible way, with every little noise potentially attracting the deadly creatures that hunt by sound.

The video reveals a new status ailment that reflects the protagonist’s condition as an asthmatic. Stress worsens the player’s condition, a game feature comparable to the ‘Sanity Meter’ in Amnesia: The Dark Descent. To counter this, A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead includes inhalers that players can collect and use to improve their condition during gameplay. These inhalers become essential, as a loud asthma attack is the last thing you want in a world where even the smallest sound can mean death.

One Fatal Flaw

The developers generated plenty of hype for the game when they released the first trailer, but loyal fans have also voiced some concerns. A ten-minute exclusive gameplay video, featuring a glimpse of Alex’s journey, came out a few months ago. However, what caught players’ attention were the sound effects used during the demo. Despite the game’s lore emphasizing the need for silence, the gameplay seemed to disregard this crucial aspect.

Comments under the trailer criticized the protagonist’s loud footsteps and her movements. This gave an impression that the character lacked the caution fans expected. Fans compared how the movie characters masked their footsteps with sand in the original film to the way Alex’s footsteps echoed through hallways full of lurking monsters. This drastic difference left many fans disappointed, unable to fully commit to the game’s hype.

We can only hope that the developers have addressed these concerns and adjusted the sound effects to reflect the anxiety the original source material delivered. With only a few weeks left until the release date, we will have to wait and see how the game turns out.

What Makes the A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead Unique?

In A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead, gamers can use the game’s optional noise detection feature by connecting or turning on a microphone on their preferred system. All of their real-life sounds will directly affect the game when this function is activated.

Although this isn’t actually a novel thing in the gaming industry—Don’t Scream, Stifled, and Welcome to the Game are a few examples that also use a player’s microphone to help intensify the gaming experience—their usage of it could be quite a game-changer. It offers something new like the new Avatar: The Last Airbender AAA RPG promises.

Here’s a 10-minute gameplay that shows you how the microphone detection works in A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead:
