The Game Awards 2024 Game of the Year - Astrobot
Team Asobi created the 2024 platform game Astro Bot, which Sony Interactive Entertainment released on the PlayStation 5. It is the first game with the character that Team Asobi has created after splitting from Japan Studio, and it is a follow-up to Astro’s Playroom (2020).
Astrobot, which was launched to commemorate PlayStation’s 30th anniversary, was widely praised by reviewers and sold 1.5 million copies by November 2024. At the 2024 Game Awards, it took home multiple honors, notably Game of the Year.
Many like the game because it’s like a return to glory for platformers. It also brings nostalgia for fans because it reminds gamers of the good old days. Plus, it’s an amazing family-friendly, and fun game that anyone of any age can play.
Other categories that Astro Bot won include Best Family Game, Best Game Direction, and Best Action-Adventure Game. Of course, some would say that although Astro Bot deserves to be among The Game Awards 2024 winners, it didn’t deserve to be The Game of the Year.
Here’s the trailer for Astro Bot:
The Game Awards 2024 Best Fighting Game - Tekken 8
The 2024 fighting game Tekken 8 was created by Arika and Bandai Namco Studios and released by Bandai Namco Entertainment. It’s the first Tekken game to be released on home consoles rather than arcades. It’s the eighth canon release (in addition to being the tenth game release overall).
With tournaments, arcade features, customizable avatars, and unique currency that appears throughout the game, Arcade Quest was an additional feature to their online version. The game’s graphics, plot, overall series advancement, and intense gameplay were all praised by critics when Tekken 8 was first released. It’s certainly a great fighting game that deserves its spot among The Game Awards 2024 winners.
