Marvel Rivals 10 Million Players in Just 72 Hours! WHAT?!

Achieving the Marvel Rivals 10 million players mark was something that everyone foresaw, but nobody could’ve predicted that the game would hit it in just 72 hours (three days) and that this new NetEase Games title would blow up so much!

Marvel Rivals is a super successful game, and another example that comes to mind was when Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 sales hit 4.5 million. But this time, Marvel Rivals is a much bigger game with a way bigger player count.

If you love the hero-shooter genre, you’ve probably heard or you’re currently playing Marvel Rivals yourself. Today, we’ll be digging into the meat of this “10 million players” news and finding out more information about the topic!

The Rise in Marvel Rivals Popularity Is Nothing Short of Impressive

Developer NetEase Games is undoubtedly pleased with the success of Marvel Rivals, a new shooter that is similar to Overwatch 2 and is currently free to play on consoles and PCs. In just three days, the game attracted over 10 million players.

Even though Marvel Rivals was just released 2 weeks ago, the hero shooter has already become a huge sensation. In an X (formerly Twitter) post, NetEase claimed that the game already had over 10 million users.

Here’s the post itself:

It’s a remarkable accomplishment that might even surpass Overwatch, developed by Blizzard Entertainment. The renowned shooter from 2016 reached 25 million players within eight months. Its sequel, Overwatch 2, gained popularity considerably faster, reaching comparable figures in just ten days and nearly tripling the top daily user count of the original.

Although it’s impossible to predict if Marvel Rivals will hit 25 million copies, it appears to be headed in the right direction.

Does the Marvel Rivals Player Base Have a Competition?

While I really wouldn’t want to talk about competing titles in this one, it seems like Path of Exile 2 is Marvel Rivals‘s competitor. Together, they’ve pulled in 39 million concurrent players on Steam. Marvel Rivals 10 million players mark certainly helped a lot with that amazing number.

Now, I’m going to make a bold statement here, but I believe that when Elden Ring: Nightreign releases, it’s going to be making impressive numbers, too. However, Marvel Rivals will only be available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5, with no Nintendo Switch port being planned for now.

Additionally, there isn’t a mobile version in development, but Blizzard is apparently following Call of Duty‘s lead by releasing a mobile version of Overwatch 2 soon.

Did NetEase Game's History With Blizzard Help With Its Success?

Similar to how many businesses attempt to turn well-known and lucrative intellectual properties into BR (Battle Royale) games , the idea of a Marvel Comics hero-shooter came across to many gamers as a clear cash grab.

With its obvious love for the genre and the source material, the game has so far been able to overcome that difficult obstacle. Everything from the apparent to the obscure is covered in detail in every map, skin, and character.

Even though some characters have skills that are comparable to Overwatch mainstays, their general movesets allow them to be distinctive while still displaying their origins.

The fact that NetEase once collaborated with Blizzard as a Chinese support company for games like World of Warcraft, StarCraft, and Overwatch has probably been the biggest development aid. Even after being acquired by Microsoft, Blizzard is still embroiled in controversy. Meanwhile, since Blizzard terminated their 14-year contract, NetEase has had tremendous growth.

What Does the Future Look Like for Marvel Rivals and the Marvel Rivals Community?

Marvel Rivals‘s debut season, “Season 0: Dooms’ Rise,” is presently airing. The game’s time-bending matches are made possible by the storyline for this launch. The storyline goes like this: two Doctor Dooms—one from the original universe and the other from the distant future of 2099—have destroyed reality, causing this mix-up of Marvel heroes in one place.

Right now, there are currently 33 playable characters in the game. Each one has a distinct and varied moveset, and more will be added in the future.

Numerous well-known characters that are expected to be in the game for the following year have been revealed in recent Marvel Rivals leaks. The developers have also promised new maps, and the present version offers a surprisingly large amount of mythology and story to delve into.

Players of Marvel Rivals can acquire a special Spider-Man outfit based on Kaine’s Scarlet Spider identity from the comics. The game is available for free on Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S/X, and PSN. The way I see it, should the game’s player numbers continue to climb as Christmas approaches and well into the New Year, Blizzard will undoubtedly have some competition.
