The release of Game of Thrones: Kingsroad rekindled the embers of joy inside the millions of fans suffering through winter when the beloved series ended, but now that the game is here, fans can play and live in the Game of Thrones world and make their presence matter.
How are y’all doing? I’m Jake Whitlock, and today, I’ll be providing an early review of a newly released video game called Game of Thrones: Kingsroad. After spending several hours immersed in the game’s early access stage, I can confidently say that this title offers a compelling journey through Westeros. Developed by Netmarble Neo, this action-adventure RPG invites players to experience a richly detailed world, blending familiar lore with fresh narratives.
With that said, allow me to lay down the thoughts I have for the game, and I hope y’all enjoy and learn something from it!
Game of Thrones: Kingsroad Gifts Players With a Vivid Depiction of Westeros
From the icy expanses beyond the Wall to the bustling streets of King’s Landing, Game of Thrones: Kingsroad captures the essence of Westeros with impressive fidelity. Players can tour famous landmarks and discover hidden secrets in the game’s painstakingly designed landscapes. Fans will also appreciate the attention to detail in the world-building enhances immersion, making each journey feel authentic and engaging.

The Kingsroad Game Has Engaging Combat Mechanics
Combat in Game of Thrones: Kingsroad is both strategic and satisfying. There are three distinct classes that players have the opportunity to play as—Knight, Sellsword, and Assassin—each sporting unique abilities and playstyles that can add flavor to the gameplay.
The game’s manual controls emphasize dodging, parrying, and executing powerful attacks, requiring players to think tactically during encounters. This depth in combat mechanics adds a layer of challenge and excitement to the gameplay.
Set In a New Chapter in Westeros, the Game of Thrones RPG Does Well in Its Original Storyline
Game of Thrones: Kingsroad adds an original plot that deepens the series’ backstory and takes place following the events of the series’ fourth season. Players assume the role of a member of House Tyre, navigating political intrigues and forging alliances to restore their family’s honor. The narrative is enriched by well-written dialogues and character interactions, providing a fresh perspective on the complex dynamics of Westeros.
Grab a Friend and Have Fun Engaging in the Kingsroad Gameplay Together
Beyond the single-player experience, Game of Thrones: Kingsroad offers cooperative gameplay options. Players can team up to tackle challenging dungeons and formidable foes, fostering a sense of camaraderie and shared accomplishment. This multiplayer aspect adds variety to the gameplay and encourages strategic collaboration.

What Is the Game's Monetization and Accessibility Climate?
While Game of Thrones: Kingsroad is free-to-play, it incorporates monetization elements such as in-game purchases and battle passes. Some players have expressed concerns about the potential impact on progression and balance. However, the core experience remains accessible, and with thoughtful management, players can enjoy the game’s offerings without feeling pressured to spend.
I will say though that I do share some of the player’s worries about this one being P2W (Pay to Win), especially on the mobile side. Gamers have been given P2W slop one after the other in the mobile space, so I do hope that they won’t steer in that direction.
But from what I’ve played so far, the game is like baiting you to spend some of your actual money by setting up inconveniences that players can get rid of by taking out their wallets and throwing some money into the air. Underneath the abundance of in-game currencies and walking-through-molasses type of grind progression, Kingsroad possesses the ability to retain the romance of its source material, which is perhaps the most disturbing aspect of this approach.
Nothing hurts a gamer more than to see a videogame that has all the right potential be held back by some form of semi-forced monetization implemented by the developer. It’s a tad disheartening, to say the least. Hopefully, it doesn’t end up like that time when prior to Microsoft’s acquisition, former Blizzard President Mike Ybarra intended to discontinue microtransactions in Diablo 4 and reboot Overwatch.
What Areas Can the Netmarble Kingsroad Game Improve?
Despite its strengths, Game of Thrones: Kingsroad has areas that could benefit from refinement. Some players have reported technical issues, including occasional bugs and performance hiccups. Additionally, the game’s inventory system and visual customization options could be enhanced to provide a more seamless and personalized experience.

Is Game of Thrones: Kingsroad Worth Playing?
Game of Thrones: Kingsroad delivers a rich and immersive RPG experience that captures the spirit of the beloved series. With its detailed world, engaging combat, and compelling narrative, it offers both fans and newcomers a chance to explore Westeros in a new light. While there are areas for improvement, the game’s foundation is strong, and with continued development, it has the potential to become a standout title in the genre.
For those intrigued by the world of Westeros and seeking an adventure filled with intrigue, combat, and exploration, Game of Thrones: Kingsroad is certainly worth a try.
