Kinetic Games’ terrifying and enjoyable multiplayer horror game Phasmophobia has now made its console debut, four years after it debuted on the PC. enabling owners of Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 to finally enjoy the pleasures of yelling into a microphone while their friends laugh.

It looks like Vampire Survivors Castlevania DLC isn’t the only one catching up for Halloween. Join me as we learn more about Phasmophobia’s console release and what awaits console players!

The Door to the Joys of Ghost Hunting Is Now Open for All

Just three months after its September 2020 release, Phasmophobia won the Best Debut Game award. Now, the game includes cross-play alongside console compatibility, allowing gamers to confront the paranormal with friends on any platform—or run screaming from it.

The Crimson Eye is a new game update that coincides with the console launch. It is now accessible on all platforms and includes bug fixes, quality-of-life enhancements, and the return of an incredible seasonal event.

Here’s the console launch trailer for Phasmophobia:

What Does the Game Say About Its Console Release?

A recently posted blog on the game’s website provides an explanation, saying, “Last October, ghost hunters summoned the Blood Moon using a mysterious cauldron. This year, the Blood Moon is back and bigger than ever.

In a number of places, paranormal energy has sharply surged for this Phasmophobia console release. This gives rise to a new weather pattern known as “The Blood Moon.” To obtain Blood Points, players must enter these haunted areas, finish optional tasks, perform investigations, and take pictures of any Blood Altars they come across.

Players can now collect Blood Points and obtain new goodies by collaborating with the Ghost Huntin’ Community. It seems like Phasmophobia is really capitalizing on its community-based success, and I’m all for it. Community is what keeps games alive, after all. The more that developers make their communities involved in the game, the better!

However, players must be advised that spirits will be more powerful and formidable than ever during the Blood Moon.

Let's Talk More About What Seems to Be a Phasmophobia Halloween Event

Even while playing alone, Blood Moon (as well as all “future temporary or seasonal events”) will need an internet connection, according to the blog post. This may sound like a bummer for the Phasmophobia console release, but the developers do have an explanation.

This is because transient in-game events introduce “a lot of technical changes.” Keeping players connected when participating in seasonal or live events is going to enable Kinetic Games to keep up with the event progress as well as make live adjustments on their cloud servers, if necessary.

Phasmophobia is a multiplayer game at its core, so I don’t really think many players would mind being online for it. If this lets Kinetic Games deliver high-quality events like the Fortnite Halloween 2024 that Fortnite had, I’m cool with it.

What Other Things Does This "Crimson Eye" Update Offer?

The Warehouse now has an Event Board thanks to the Crimson Eye update. Players will now be introduced to “Leaflets” in this Phasmophobia console release. These leaflets showcase the current in-game challenges and events that are available. Gamers can view them on the Event Board, and they let players keep track of their progress for each event they’re participating in.

Oh, and the game’s photo corkboard has been relocated to the vehicle parked inside the warehouse. This is to accommodate the Event Board, which is situated between the warehouse door and the truck.

Sunny Meadows Survival and Ranger Challenge are the two new challenges that are now available on the Event Board.

But Wait... There's More From the Phasmophobia Console Gameplay Features

A physics update that greatly lessens the frustration of doors is one of the other enhancements. Players can no longer be pushed aside by moving doors (which can be the cause for some really funny moments, but they’re mostly just an annoyance), and doors are now unable to be removed from their hinges.

Furthermore, players will no longer be forced through solid objects like walls. And another great news: the floors of Point Hope have now been reinforced with low-FPS-proof wood. This means that players won’t have to be so paranoid about accidentally glitching and falling through the infamous Point Hope Floors.
